A quarter of a million pets—including the puppies of purebred dogs—are put to sleep or euthanized in animal shelters in North Carolina every year. Your pet’s puppies and kittens could end up euthanized or suffering in the streets. Spaying and neutering helps reduce the number of homeless pets and pet deaths.
In 2010, we, in collaboration with Elizabethtown Veterinary Hospital, the Bladen County Department of Social Services and Columbus Humane Society, started a monthly spay and neuter program to help low-income households in Bladen and Columbus counties. One day a month, Elizabethtown Veterinary Hospital closes to the public in order to perform an average of 30 spay and neuter surgeries.
