Transport

A Shelter Friend volunteers are good at promoting and moving pets.  We make sure everyone knows that the best, cutest, most trainable and neediest pets can be found here in the shelters of southeastern NC.

By networking with rescues in the more populous northeastern states we have built trusting relationships over time.  Our homeless dogs and puppies are actually desired in those areas, where spay and neuter surgery is more commonplace and has done a better job keeping up with the pet population.  Not to ignore cats – we don’t – but they seem to have ample numbers no matter where you look.  We celebrate each cat we are able to save.

Every ten to fourteen days A Shelter Friend sends former shelter pets to a new life in the Northeast.  Volunteers have pulled and a vet has examined those making the trip.  The youngest have been quarantined in foster homes before the journey and all travel with health certificates.

A Shelter Friend has come a long way since our first transport in 2007.  Over 1000 pets were helped to a new life by A Shelter Friend volunteers in 2008.  As more volunteers lent their time, we assisted 1,389 in 2009 and over 1,100 lives saved in 2010.

Transport can be obtained at a reasonable cost, for information please email : Transport

We arrange transports frequently, and can recommend transporters that we have ongoing experience with.
